1967 Professional World Trampoline Championships

Yes. There were World Championship competitions for Professional trampoline gymnasts. They were held in the 1960s and sponsored by the Nissen Corporation. There was only one event: men’s individual trampoline. But there were exhibitions of gymnastics and spaceball.

The first one was held in 1964 in New York and was won by American George Hery. The second one was held in 1967 in Illinois and is the subject of the latest and fascinating viral video that hit the internet last week.

The video was originally a film commissioned by the Nissen Corporation to promote trampoline and gymnastics around the world. TrampolineHistory.blogspot posted the┬áhistoric details of the 1967 event – won by American Gary Erwin who beat the defending champion Hery, followed by another American, Ron Munn.
