First 32nd FIG World Trampoline Gymnastics Champions Crowned

Days 2 and 3 of the 32nd FIG World Trampoline Gymnastics Championships are in the can, the first Championships were crowned.

At the end of the day yesterday, Friday November 10th, Team titles were awarded for Men’s DMT, Women’s Tumbling and both Individual Trampoline events. With three World Champions leading the Men’s Chinese Trampoline team, it was hard to expect anything other than gold in the Men’s Trampoline Team event. Star power aside, it wasn’t such an easy task. At the end of the day, they edged out Team Russian by a mere .295, who pressed the Chinese with routines led by Dmitri Ushakov, who performed the highest score to the night.

The Chinese were also victorious in the Women’s Trampoline Team and Women’s Tumbling events. The Men’s Team DMT title was won by the Russian team.

Qualifications for the Synchronized events were also held yesterday. Both #1 Chinese teams, however, who were gold favorites, made grave mistakes that eliminated them from the Final events.

The rivalry between the two queens of international tumbling, China’s Jia Fangfang and Russia’s Anna Korobeinikova was a fierce as ever. This year, however, Fangfang edged out Korobeinikova by a sliver, winning by .2.

The excitement in the Men’s DMT was palpable. American Austin Nacey nailed his passes, including a triffis over, QUAD back off. Yes, you read the right (hence the CAPS) – a quad – which garnered a loud cheer from the crowd. But, former World Champ Mikhail Zalomin was not ready to give up another chance for a World Title, coming out on top by .5.

The finals for the Synchronized trampoline events were held today. China’s #2 Women’s pair of Zhong Xingping and Zhu Xueying gave the Chinese a synchro gold, making their country proud. Olympic Champion Uladzislau Hancharou and his synchro teammate Aley Rabtsau came out on top in the Men’s Synchronized event.

The remaining Team events were also held today. The Russian Women’s DMT Team beat the elated team from Great Britain. The Men’s Tumbling team from Great Britain led by 2013 World Champion Kristof Willerton were victorious beating their formidable rivals from China.

Tomorrow, the final day of these Championships, the Men’s and Women’s Individual titles are at stake as well as Women’s DMT and Men’s Tumbling. Semi-finals will start at 1:30, finals at 5:00 in Sofia.
