In case you missed it: Over the weekend, new Olympians were selected, the first World Cup for the year was held in Taiyuan, China and the French National Trampoline Championships were held in Rodez.

Kat Driscoll won the only spot for Great Britain in dramatic fashion at the North West Gala in Liverpool on Saturday. The top three British contenders were on fire and in it to win it! At the end of the day, the tight finish had Driscoll on top with a score of 53.515 beating out Amanda Parker’s 53.410 and Laura Gallagher’s 53.160. Tears all around.

By beating out his teammates at the World Cup in Taiyuan , it appears that Blake Gaudry has also taken the Olympic spot reserved for Australia. This needs to be confirmed, but I’m pretty sure it’s right.

Gregoire Penne from France is also one step closer to the Olympics, if not completely qualified. He won the French National Championships – again – on Saturday. More on this in the next post …

Finally, Chinese gymnasts won every event at the World Cup in Taiyan except Men’s Synchro, where they placed second behind the Japanese team (results below). A little note of history: Savannah Vinsant is the first American woman to win a medal at a World Cup competition since 1996*, taking the bronze in the Women’s Individual Trampoline event behind Olympic and World Champs Dan Li and Wenna He from China.

* Jennifer Parilla, from Orange County, CA and coached by Robert Null, was the first American woman to win a medal in a modern World Cup. It was in 1996 when she won a silver in Frankfurt, Germany.
